What is documentary photography?

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place … I’ve found it has little to do with things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
– Elliott Erwitt

Where are you located?

I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  I will travel up to 20 miles without a travel fee.

How can we get in touch?

What kind of photographer are you?

I am a natural light, on location photographer. I take pictures of babies, kids and families. I love storytelling/documentary photography. This type of photography is a realistic but artistic approach to capturing your everyday life and moments.  To photograph who you really are, the seemingly meaningless moments that define your life with your family. These are the important moments, the ones you want to remember as your children grow. Giving baby a bath and snuggles, evening walks to the park, baking cookies with your child, reading books, making smores the possibilities are endless. I am not the type of photographer that takes the flawless family photo with everyone looking at the camera.  I want our sessions to be real so I can capture precious, organic moments you will cherish for years to come.

Where will we shoot?

All sessions will take place on location. I want to photograph you at your home, in a park or on the street, at a coffee shop–wherever best fits your family and our session’s goals. Some of the best sessions are doing the activities that you enjoy the most(example: hiking, fishing, going on a walk, watching the sunset, playing games at home, ect., where you will feel most comfortable and natural. I want the camera to be secondary, creating and capturing connections and interactions in families is the main goal.

What does the process look like?

So a session  with me would look like this:

We would talk over the phone or in person and plan your session.  I’ll ask for some things you love about your life, things you want to remember, we’ll pick 3-4 activities/moments you would like documented. The session would be anywhere from 2-3 hours, I would only interfere if the light wasn’t right or if I have a suggestion on where we should shoot and occasionally I may encourage a direction or shot.  I will make time for some quick family portraits but this would only be about 15 mins of our time.  They would be unposed, very natural.
